Artist Biography

I have always had a passion for creating art, in various mediums. But, it was not until I pursued a career in Art Education, at the University of Kansas, that I found my love for working in oil paints.

Now, I have had over a decade to develop my personal painting style. I have found a passion in working with palette knives, to create Impressionist style landscapes. In the past few years, I have delved more into sharing my art. I have done so through commission work, philanthropic donations, participation in various juried art shows and community arts events. In both 2022 and 2023, I had the privilege of displaying my work at the Wichita Autumn and Art weekend. I will be back at Autumn and Art this Fall, Sept. 13-15th! Additionally, for the past three years, I have worked with the Philanthropic Board at Children’s Mercy Hospital, donating paintings for their Red Hot Nights, annual fundraiser event. Then, this past year, I had the honor of being selected by jurors to paint a large sculptural piece within the 2024 Parade of Hearts in Kansas City. This event benefits Children’s Mercy, KU Medical Center, the Family Conservancy, and Arts & Culture within Kansas City.

All these experiences have further fueled my passion for sharing my work, arts advocacy and the promotion of creative expression.

About the Art

Impressionist inspired oil paintings on hand-stretched canvases, with painted edges and custom framing.

My works are often characterized by smooth strokes of cool/soft colors, alongside a splash of warm contrast. Many of the paintings show an exploration of techniques and supply use, as I alternate between a paintbrush and palette knife, in order to apply varying layers or textures of paint. I employ loose brushstrokes to show both the movement of the scene, as well as to leave a sense of the process of techniques applied to create the work. Through my art, my hope is to instill an appreciation for nature and daily life, alongside an admiration for the process of painting and creating.
